Beqa Island Resorts

Beqa Island is located about 7-8 km off the south coast of Fiji's main island. There are no roads on the Beqa (pronounced Mbeng-ga) and access to the holiday resorts and nine villages is by boat or chartered float plane. Guests are transferred from Pacific Harbour or Navua on the mainland. The island is of volcanic origin covering some 36 sq kilometres with a hilly interior rising to 480 metres. It is encircled by a huge lagoon, with stunning dive sites to be found on the 12 - 14 metre deep fringing reef, making the island popular for scuba diving vacations in Fiji.

Shark feeding is also popular with divers to Fiji. Culturally significant are the traditional Fijian firewalkers, an ancient ritual where men walk upon the red hot stones raked from a fireplace. Though not practiced as a regular custom, the tradition exists in demonstrations, notably at tourism resorts on the island. The island is rich with indigenous fauna, including flying foxes. Marine life includes dolphins and turtles.
