Fiji Scuba Diving Accommodation
As well as being well-known as a budget, family, and romance destination, Fiji is also very popular as a diving mecca. The warm tropical waters make diving a real pleasure, especially in the summer months from November to April. The high season, however, is May to October, for although the water is slightly cooler (24°C - 27°C, or 75°F - 80°F), it is also the season when there are fewer tropical rain showers. Summer ocean temperatures are usually about 3°C (5°F) higher than the winter ocean temperatures. Read more about Fiji Diving
Where to Stay
- The fourth largest reef in the world is the Great Astrolabe in Fiji, and this is located close to the islands of Kadavu and Ono. Remotely located, it offers pristine dive sites for scuba enthusiasts the world over. The closest resorts include Waisalima Beach Resort (budget accommodation), Matava Resort (medium), or for luxury diving accommodation, the Yaukuve Island Resort is said to be opening in 2008.
- Probably the most famous diving region, however, is the Rainbow Reef, accessed from Taveuni. Accommodation here includes Maravu Resort and Taveuni Island Resort (luxury), Paradise Taveuni (medium-high range), Garden Island Resort (budget to medium), Tovutovu Resort (budget).
- Beqa lagoon also offers fantastic diving opportunities. Accommodation in this region includes resorts and lodgings at Pacific Harbour, such as the Lagoon Resort (medium range), Pearl South Pacific (luxury) or Tsulu Backpackers (budget). Or maybe stay on Beqa Island itself. Here one can find Lalati Resort, Beqa Lagoon Resort, and Kulu Bay Resort (deluxe-luxury range), Lawaki Beach House (budget-medium), or the exclusive Royal Davui on it own private island close to Beqa.
- For something different, choose accommodated cruising, such as the Nai'a dive liveaboard, which explores the remote Lomaiviti reefs of central Fiji, or the Blue Lagoon Cruise, which explores the Yasawa Islands north-west of Nadi.
- If you are diving in the Mamanucas there are a whole range of great resorts, such as Mana, Castaway, Beachcomber, Navini, Malolo, Likuliku, Treasure, Tokoriki, Matamanoa, Musket Cove, Wadigi, and Amanuca. They range from medium to 5-star luxury.
