If you want to find a vacation rental home or cottage, then Fiji is waiting for you. Typical vacation rentals include at least two bedrooms, living room, outdoor verandah and barbecue area, and full kitchen. One advantage of a holiday rental, compared with a resort or hotel, is the privacy. Most come with lush landscaped gardens, providing a quiet home away from home. They are often on or near the beach. Another advantage is that many offer good discounts for long-term stays. A further boon is the freedom to prepare your own meals if you wish, with the flexibility of eating out if you prefer. Often you will find the owner has staff on hand to assist you, from house-cleaning to cooking if you wish! They are usually a local Fijian couple and you will find them a delightful help during your stay, as they are friendly, obliging and very knowledgeable about local trips and activities, as well as being able to advise on shopping, food supplies, fresh tropical fruits and vegetables, and local customs.

Favourite regions where you can find this kind of accommodation are in Taveuni (especially around Matei), Savusavu (also in the north), along the Coral Coast, on some outer islands (such as Mana and Malolo Lai Lai in the Mamanucas). Another popular spot is at the northern tip of the mainland past Rakiraki. Here, near Wananavu Resort can be found many privately owned homes and villas that are leased out to travellers.
